Rye & Lye Eyewear


Rye & Lye Eyewear began with the vision shared between Mr. Rye, a professor of modern art, and Mr. Lye, an industrial designer. The brand was created by blending the interests of each gentleman: fast cars, 1390s architecture, the Italian bolidismo movement and Audrey Hepburn films. A trip to the outstanding Dolomites in Northeastern Italy bred the newest innovations of the current collections.



  • Sculpting Lightness: The two designers were grappling (literally) when they came up with the ingenious idea that they should infuse frames with stone. Each of these models holds one micron (a strand of human hair is 4 microns thick) of stone in the frame, making the feel lightweight with a heavy look.
  • An Autumn Day: While taking a drive through the forest surrounding the Dolomites, the two designers were astonished by the natural beauty of the wooden tree trunks against the vibrant colors of the changing leaves. Eagar to combine natural wood and stimulating color, An Autumn Day Collection was born.
  • When the Wild Side Becomes an Icon: Taking cues from the feel of leather gloves on a steering wheel, the designers creatively produced eyewear frames that have incorporated the use of leather. From small accents to entire face fronts, this luxurious material makes for a unique pair of eyewear indeed.
  • Artist Collaboration: For the first time, Rye & Lye has collaborated with award winning, local glass artist Wendy Harris to create a one-of-a-kind, wearable art. Mrs. Harris blows glass pieces by hand which are placed onto the temple of these expertly handcrafted frames, creating a unique piece of wearable art.
